Romney Marsh Potato CompanyFounded by Jules Sleap in 1950, Romney Marsh Potato Company saw and experienced extraordinary change over the years. Jules began serving London greengrocers after reading that housewives had to queue for rationed potatoes. By the mid-1950s Romney Marsh was the first company in Southern England to supply potato pre-packs, and by 1959 we were serving these to a small chain of shops called Tesco. Sadly Jules Sleap died on December 19th 2002. His wife Edna died in 2008.

Through the 1980s and 1990s, with consumer expectations driving standards higher and higher, growers and packers had to evolve to survive, and work together to meet new quality specifications. Accordingly we introduced our agronomy service ROMPAS to give our growers the necessary technical support. In 2003 we constructed a 15,000 sq. ft. building that is available for rent.

Amongst all these changes the company remained family owned by Jules' sons Terry and Colin and managed by themselves. When Romney Marsh Potato Company ceased trading, Romney Marsh Ltd was started to take the company in a new direction.
